The Isles of Scilly is a group of islands 28 miles off Lands End which have belonged to the Duchy of Cornwall since 1337. They lie in unpolluted blue sea, with white sandy beaches, fields of daffodils in December and dazzling bright flowers in summer. They are also home to puffins, terns, guillemots, dolphins and the Atlantic grey seal. Scilly is addictive, once you’re hooked you’re hooked for life.
In this video we take a series of tours around all five inhabited islands: St Mary’s, St. Martin’s, St. Agnes, Bryher and Tresco, with its world famous Abbey Gardens. We also visit Samson, an island once inhabited but now left purely to the birds. We look at the scenery, items of historical significance and the varied and often unusual flora and fauna. After each day’s tour we sample the excellent local entertainment and the spectacular and varied sunsets over Samson. The programme will appeal to newcomers and seasoned veterans alike and represents a visitor’s view of Scilly, that unique experience so hard to put into words. There is no better way to keep the memory of a holiday on Scilly alive or to share the experience with friends.
We would like to express our appreciation to the following people for their help in making this video:

This DVD is an ideal introduction to the inhabited and uninhabited islands surrounding the UK coast or Great Britain coast. We call it "A Portrait of Scilly" because it is so comprehensive and shows all that a visitor might see on holiday. The only inhabited islands are St. Mary's, Tresco with the beautiful and world-renowned Tresco Abbey Gardens, St. Agnes, St. Martin's and Bryher. Samson is now uninhabited but a lovely spot to visit. All the islands have very old burial chambers dating from the bronze age when the islands were all joined together. They now all belong to the Duchy of Cornwall. Those living on the islands are known as Scillonians. Many birdwatchers go there in winter to see the migrating birds. Even in summer you can see Manx Shearwaters, Atlantic Grey Seals, or Atlantic Gray Seals as the Americans would say. On a clear day you can see Cornwall or at least the Cornish Coast. So as the Isles of Scilly are part of Cornwall, being just 28 miles from Lands End you could say this is a DVD of Cornwall or Cornwall DVD. Of course to get there you leave either by ship (the Scillonian) for a leasurely voyage or, if you are not a good sailor, by 'plane or by helicopter from Penzance. Probably the most memorable of the views are the sunsets or, for the early bird, the sunrise (seen on this DVD). Like any small self contained community there is always good entertainment with many varied examples shown on the DVD.
